Sadly though I just cannot say this game is any good to me mostly because of the port issues and personally its enemy designs really sucks imo with the game just throwing waves upon waves upon waves upon waves on enemies and never differs from this formula at all except making some encounters really annoying. I know it sounds like I am being harsh but lord did I still enjoy my time with this game to the degree I could its just something about the graphics, world that really makes it a joy to explore. To add the bosses are really lame I really wished they did more with the bosses they are literally the same exact type of bosses each level. While being fun its riddle with really annoying segments, PC issues, controller issues, Glitches and hitboxes that make no sense. I really enjoyed XXL2 but lord I just did not have a good time with this game by the end of its playthrough. While having so much charm there is so much wrong with this game. Great stuff, even if 3 is as bad as some people say, go for the Collection Bundle at a price that suits you :) Again, the original isn't on Steam and nor are countless other Asterix titles from the past, so I'm very happy this is here and that it's got a classic play option. But then I never played it originally, so I don't know if things like camera and the odd prematurely disappearing wild boar are as original or remaster flaws. If there are still bugs and gripes as per Negative reviews, then I've just been very lucky indeed. But as things are, this is great for presenting essentially the original and remaster under one roof. If the original version was on Steam I think I would be curious enough to get it, at the right price. Biffing Romans here is fun and they know it. Some classic remasters that has been the case - they've looked lovely, but it's all been so soft and cuddly, I've just not been keen to spend much time playing. My worry was that this wouldn't be challenging for experienced gamers, but I'm happy with the Hard mode here, it doesn't feel like it's so casual that I just put it down. The animations (which I realise are enhanced even if skinned as original) are nice and some of the voice work made me lol. But in a bundle these days, it's delivering a charming cartoon style experience. I've been playing like that with an occasional flip to see what the new visuals and music are in bits - especially when repeating. I commend them for including an option to play as original with only minor changes/tweaks to what came out in '03. I've played and enjoyed just over 7 hours on Hard as my first experience of XXL (not in one go of course). Never played that, but I can see elements of it made it into some of the console titles. It has a good rep and people keep talking in every review for this licence about the Arcade from '92. Never played these, I've played the odd Asterix console title decades ago, but not owned and completed anything.Įveryone loves the comics, so you go into this hoping it's going to deliver.
